Oak Lawn Qdoba Set to Close This Friday

The mexican grill restaurant is closing 18 stores throughout the Chicago area, including their only two south suburbs locations.

Qdoba Mexican Grill, located at 5141 W. 95th St., will be gone for good before the weekend, according to a press release from Jack in the Box Inc., Qdoba's parent company.

The Oak Lawn location is expected to shut its doors this Friday, June 28 at 3 p.m. The store closing is among 67 expected nationwide, and 18 in the Chicago area, alone. Orland Park Qdoba—the only other south suburban location—is also closing on Friday.

Qdoba President Tim Casey says the closures are required to help grow the brand and increase the quality of customers' dining experiences. However, that probably comes as little consolation to the south suburban Qdoba fans who will soon be without a nearby place to get their Qdoba fix.

"By closing these locations and optimizing our company footprint, we can be more effective in focusing our advertising and marketing resources to support existing and planned restaurants in our core markets where we have high levels of brand awareness," Casey said in a press release. "We also expect to provide an even better dining experience for our guests as our operations teams concentrate their efforts on supporting these markets.”

Qdoba does, however, plan on opening another 70 to 75 new locations throughout fiscal year 2013, and another 60 to 70 in 2014. There is no indication yet on where the new stores will be located.
