Palermo's is by far the best....always tender with great flavor. Portillo's comes in as #2

Als has good beef but small sandwiches. I go to mount greenwood and hit Pops a great beef sandwich.
OakLawnGuy May 4, 2012 at 01:11 pm
Yeah it's a chain, but Portillo's does it for me. The fries are a perfect complement.

The beef an cheddar croissant at Portillo's melts in your mouth.
But for a non-chain joint, I will say Frankie's.
JR May 4, 2012 at 02:41 pm
I don't like Al's.
Frankies and Portillo's are both good. But I have to agree wit zula, Pops is the best. 2 locations 104th & Kedzie and 131st & Harlem in Palos
Russ Petrick May 5, 2012 at 10:49 am
I now this is not in the area of competition, but Dukes on Harlem does it for me.

Re: Mother 24's final comment on food handlers hand washing, is there an ordinance requiring hotRead More water in restrooms.? Many have only cold water in both faucets or verrrryyyy slow to respond hot water faucets. This should be a point of inspection for the health inspector (s.) Phinnigin

Re:Phinnigin. I agree!! Most establishments do not have hot water in the restrooms!!! However, whyRead More can't restaurants install hand sanitizer behind the counter? The Popeye's in Burbank has a hand sanitizer installed behind the counter, but honestly, the employees hardly ever use it, which is why, after a horrible experience at that location last July, I have not patronized ANY Popeye's since!!!
