What Should Go Here? Empty Storefronts in the Metra Retail Center

It's time to play "what should go here," the game that lets readers dream big about the kind of businesses and development they'd like to see in Oak Lawn.

Two prime storefronts are available for leasing in the Metra Retail Center at 5102-5116 Museum Drive, located just steps away from the Oak Lawn Metra Station, which sees about 1,000 commuters.

Both store fronts get major exposure from visitors to the adjacent and the stunning incorporating beams from the fallen World Trade Center. There is truly potential for further developing the transit retail center into a destination point.

The available spaces are 1,110 square feet and 1,500 square feet. The former Vino Tinto wine and music occupied the smaller of the two at 5114 Museum Drive until it closed last year.

Newmark Knight Frank-leasing agent Kevin McNamara said the larger space at 5110 Museum Drive was originally intended to be a 24/7 convenience store. The build-out was never completed and the corporate retailer has been paying for the empty space ever since. McNamara thinks the tenant may be amenable to subletting.

So what do you think you should go here? Another wine and piano bar? A business for the time-starved commuter, such as a dry cleaners? An ice cream shop? An educational store to compliment the Children’s Museum?
