D123 Back to School Extravaganza

Can we say… AWESOME!

On Saturday, August 24th, District 123 held their annual Back to School Extravaganza on the grounds of Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School.  The event is a cooperative effort between District 123 and our district’s parent organizations (PTA, PTO, PTSA).  Over 50 staff members and 36 unique Oak Lawn organizations volunteered their time to assist on the day of the event.

The day began at 8am with a 5K and Family Fun Run. Seventy runners weaved through the streets around OLHMS while many families lined the course in support. D123 staff and the Oak Lawn Police Department helped guide runners on the course both on foot and on bike.  Students volunteered and manned water stations while Oak Lawn Fire and bike medics kept a watchful eye on the runners.

Medals were awarded to the top finishers.  Tom Crivelone finished with a time of 18:25 and Jennifer Donnan finished with a time of 23.53.

The remainder of the day was filled with good old-fashion fun!  Volunteers served sno-cones, popcorn, and over 600 hot dogs! D123 students and community members could be seen jumping in large inflatables, practicing judo, and dancing to the catchy tunes provided by the OLHMS Jazz Band. Several Special performances by the Park District Dancers and Oak Lawn resident Circus Boy capped off the eventful afternoon.

The event could not have been possible without the support of the D123 community and Staff!  Thank you.  What a great day!
