An Open Letter To All Dog Owners

Dear Dog Owners,

I’ve met and known dog owners who run both ends of the spectrum. Some treated their dog like a child, dressing it up and taking it everywhere and, others have used their dog as a yard decoration, chained up outside all day and all night. One thing is for certain, when it comes to dog ownership and care there are as many different ways as there are owners. That’s why I’m writing this Blog. As a dog owner myself, I would like to see a few basic rules that we can all agree on that will help our four legged friends be better citizens in the community.

Rule 1: Dogs are unable to pick up after themselves. So, as the owner, do you think you can assist your dog with this task? It will save your pet from embarrassment and your neighbors would REALLY appreciate not stepping in that little pile left behind.

Rule 2: See Rule 1 – That is the most IMPORTANT rule for your dog to be a good citizen in the community.

Now, I’ve used some light hearted humor to try to get a very important point across. However, this is a serious issue. I chatted today with another member in our community who is completely upset and frustrated because some of us are forgetting our manners and not picking up after our dogs while walking them. He has asked the owners to please pick-up but, they continue this bothersome behavior of leaving the dog’s waste on his lawn. I am publicly asking all of you dog owners out there to please be considerate of your neighbors and their property. I would also like you all to post any ideas you have on how we can help our neighbor solve this problem. I have suggested video or photographs and asking code enforcement to issue a ticket. I don’t know if this is possible so, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

A Fellow Dog Owner
