Democrats had a Bad Week

The Democrats had the worst political convention in a generation, delegates heckle God, their chairman is caught in multiple lies, the debt passes $16 trillion, and a horrible jobs report

The Democrats met in Charlotte, North Carolina to re-nominate President Obama had tried to recapture the magic of 2008 but saw the opposite as one unforced error after another made their 2012 convention the worst political convention since the 1980 Democrat Convention of the infamous Jimmy Carter-Ted Kennedy battle. The Democrat Convention started well enough on Tuesday with an as always solid performance by First Lady Michelle Obama, then the Democrats were completely knocked off message. First, a pro-Family organization disclosed that the Democrats had omitted God and removed the provision calling Jerusalem the capital of Israel from their platform. The political fallout of these two items is enormous. Moderate Democrats and Independents in swing states will be offended that God was left on the cutting room floor. Jewish voters in Florida will be equally upset at the Jerusalem omission. At first, the Democrat politicians do what they do best, defend their policies in the face of overwhelming facts. Our own Sen. Dick Durbin went on Fox News and became very irate at Fox for even bringing it up when simply asked why God and Jerusalem were omitted. Democrat National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz blamed the Republicans, though no Republicans were involved in the Democrats platform. The "mainstream media" did its best to ignore the slights, but Fox News stayed on it all Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Wednesday morning, no less than President Obama himself ordered the platform be amended to return God and Jerusalem to the platform. Los Angeles Mayor Tom Viallagrossa who was Convention Chairman, called a voice vote. Convention rules state a 2/3 vote is required to amend the platform. The first voice vote clearly did not attain a simple majority let alone 2/3. The clearly stunned chairman immediately asked for a second vote with the same result. After looking backstage very confused and staring like a deer in the headlights, the Chairman had a staffer come on stage to point out to him his script where it was per-determined the motion would pass. A third voice vote was even more toward the No faction. The Chairman immediately banged the gavel and exclaimed while reading the TelePrompTer, "2/3 having voted in the affirmative, the motion passes." a chorus of boos showered the Democrat leadership from their own delegates. Because the Democrats attempted to correct their mistake, they now had to contradict themselves, and admit they made a mistake. The voice vote caused the Democrat leadership to again deny reality and defend the indefensible again. Their creditability irrepairably impeached. First, even the Democrats liberal allies in the mainstream press were forced to cover the story since the convention took action. The spectacle of three voice votes shouting down the amendments and the chair declaring a 2/3 vote achieved when any 3 year old could tell otherwise. The scene of the Democrat Convention booing God and Israel was being broadcast again and again and again. To complicate the situation, Wasserman Schultz and other leading Democrats apparently don't have the sense of a 3 year old and stated with a straight face that 2/3 vote was achieved. CNN's Anderson Cooper, no conservative is he, stated that Wasserman Schultz "was living in an alternate universe" for making such a statement on worldwide television. Believe it or not, Thursday was even worse for Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Thursday morning the DC Examiner, a conservative Washington newspaper, published a report that Wasserman Schultz, earlier in the week at a training session for young Jewish Obama volunteers, instructed these volunteers when canvassing if they come upon a Jewish voter who was not supporting President Obama to inform that voter that Israel Ambassador Michael Oren stated that Republicans were "dangerous to Israel." Ambassador Oren immediately strongly and forcefully denied he ever said such a thing. Liberal attorney Alan Dershowitz also blasted Wasserman Schultz for her reckless comments. In response, Debbie Wasserman Schultz went on Fox News Thursday afternoon to deny she made the statement. She accused the Examiner of "deliberately misquoting me." Ah the return of the vast right wing conspiracy. Shortly later, wait for it, wait for it, it's worth it I promise. Yes! You guessed it! The DC Examiner released an audio tape of Wasserman Schultz at the training session saying PRECISELY what she was quoted as saying. Sorry and needless to say no apology for any of this fiasco from Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The Chair of the Democrat National Committee is now completely neutralized as a surrogate for President Obama. Her creditability completely destroyed by her own hand, er, mouth. This disaster of a convention was immediately followed on Friday morning by a terrible August jobs report and the June and July jobs were revised downward. During the convention, the Democrats were cheering they created 4.5 million jobs. What they didn't tell you is they lost 4.2 million. This is like the Cubs only telling you they will win 70 games this year and neglect to say they will lose 90. Things the Democrats also didn't tell you. They added $5.4 trillion in debt, added 14 million people to Food Stamps, 24 million underemployed or worse, average family income fell from $55,000 to $50,400. Two thirds of the remaining created jobs average $10 an hour or less. This is just what the national Democrats are doing, not to mention the Springfield Democrats are still trying to force suburban homeowners to pay the state's share of teacher pensions. When you vote in November, please remember the quote from Shakespeare, he (she) who lies about small things, lies about big things too."

It's not going to be enough to point out the numerous failings of this administration. Romney needs to present a cohesive, understandable and somewhat detailed plan of what he can do to fix all of this. Reagan and Clinton beat incumbants in a slow economy because they were able to show the public a real alternative.

Well put, all these issues have 2 sides. I also know that many jobs created were from stimulus money and were short lived. Same people have held several "new" jobs created, but its only 1 person working. Not even sure if they are working right now. We need a new post to start talking about the Springfield folks pushing their pension problems onto suburban voters..

Look in my blog history Rob. I have been harping on that issue for months

Which Romney is proving incapable of presenting a cohesive, understandable and somewhat detailed plan of what he can do to fix all of this. He says he has a secret plan to fix the economy (details only after he wins the election). Nixon had a secret plan too. He must think following in Nixons footsteps is a good idea. Romney keeps pandering to the TEA party and has no core values which is why he is going to lose to Obama.
