Springtime for Art Jones, Village Custodian Salaries, Kmart Closes: Feedback Friday

Readers responded to news of the village ending its 5-year litigation with Sears Holdings Company and the closing of the, paving the way for a new retail development.

RobertS – “80 jobs lost and [Mayor Dave Heilmann] says it for the best—very jaded attitude from someone who has job security! I'm not sad to see this KMart close, it has been a ghost-town for many years and Dominicks leaving sure didn't help, but my heart goes to those 80 who are now left to fight in this job market. Best of luck to them, and the best of luck to Oak Lawn and it's future regarding this property.”

Charles L. Porges -- “It has been our experience that the Kmart employees have been very accomodating to us, especially those employees that are associated with their pharmacy. We are sad that our elected Village employees have caused this ill will thru their bullying tactics not only on Kmart but also on Harley-Davidson, Edgars Funeral Home as well as the restaurant owners. Shame on them.”

Screw being a Patch editor, I’m getting a job as a custodian Readers respond to village employees’ salaries being posted on the village website, including a custodian who made $70,000 in and a cashier that earned $47,000 in gross wages in 2011.

Art Jones, a congressional candidate who neither denies nor repudiates his past affiliation the neo-Nazi pary running as a Republican in the 3rd Congressional District in the upcoming Illinois primary claims the “Holocaust never happened.” Almost 300 readers around the country commented on the story.

GNC – “When I was a young girl we lived across the street from two young boys, one a friend of my brother, whose mother was a survivor. She shook constantly, like a Parkinson's but much worse. She smoked and we were always afraid she'd start a fire. Very, very broken human being who still managed to have two boys and stay married. The story is when the camps were liberated, the crowd rushed forward so fast that her baby was knocked from her arms and trampled immediately with no hope of recovery, though many tried.
