Sharon Brannigan secured more than 60 percent of the vote Tuesday night, winning the right to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski for the 3rd Congressional District seat.

Brannigan secured 17,497 votes to 10,402 for Diane M. Harris in the Republican primary, with 95 percent of precincts tallied Tuesday night.

Brannigan is a Palos Township trustee and she and her husband own a flower shop in Orland Park, where they've been in business for 30 years. Lipinski, of Western Springs, has served in Congress since 2005.

Ms Branniganyou may have issues with Obamacare, Congressman Lipinski has done the hard work of trying to make it better knowing very well that it is here to stay. Whether you win or lose, Obamacare is here to stay. President Obama is the President for at least 34 months and that you can never change and since the Senate is currently controlled by Dems, continually voting to defund Obamacare is a waste of valuable time and resources. Lipinski has done a great job for his constituents, and deserves to be re-elected. again,

The Republicans continually vote to defund Obamacare, in part, to provide Democrats with an opportunity to join the effort. As the electorate awakens to the reality that Socialism, even when re-packaged by the Democrat Party for consumption by its low-information voters, is anathema to the American way of life, Democrat representatives will gladly join in ripping Obamacare out by its roots.

The fact that Mrs. Brannigan would would debate these issues on the Patch is a clear indication that she is extremely naive as to the political process. It's a popularity contest and you can't win without having visibility and support from the party.

I like the fact that Mrs. Brannigan comments on the Patch. Shows a bravery and down-to-earth attitude that most politicians abhor.
