'Dandelions for Dinner' Author Reception
The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society are hosting a book reading, signing and reception with Sam and Peter Stamatis, authors of Dandelions for Dinner, at the The Stamatis' heartwarming memoir is set in the sleepy Greek town of Gargaliani spanning the last quarter of the 19th century through the Greek Civil War of the 1940s. Told through the eyes of a 13-year-old boy, it shows how rich the poor can be when they have hope, faith and love for family. The reception starts at 7 p.m. Friday, May 11. Everyone is invited to this FREE event.

Looking for Love In The Right Places--Pet Adoption Event (Saturday, May 12)
The Animal Welfare League of Chicago Ridge is hosting a pet adoption event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. AWL staff and volunteers will on hand to answer questions, collect "Wish List" donations and to introduce adoptable animals to potential adopters. All adoptions include spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, booster vaccines, microchip, feline leukemia or heartworm test and 10-day health guarantee. Share Your Soles Spring Shoe Sale
The venerable Share Your Soles organization that collects pre-owned shoes to be distributed to persons in developing countries is throwing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in its warehouse at 5623 W. 115h St. Alsip. Proceeds from used shoe sales go directly to Share Your Soles to fund packaging, shipping and distribution costs. For more info call 708-448-4469.

Rocking for a Cure
Come rock out for a cure against cancer so no one ever has to lose their mom to cancer again. 'Rock for a Cure' commences at Bobby McGee's at 10139 S Harlem Ave. in Chicago Ridge. The benfit supports the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life. Food, raffles and four live bands are featured from 2 to 8 p.m., including Skinny Lombard, Arson Radio, Uproar of Ink and The Recall. $10 gets you in the door.
