After years of watching all raccoons, possums and foxes take up residence in the vacant Beatty Lumber property at 96th Street and 52nd Avenue, the mayor revealed at Tuesday’s village board meeting that one of the concepts being proposed He also accused the village manager of holding a secret meeting with the developer.

OakLawnGuy: “Not sure, I don't know what's legally defined as ‘official,’ so let's just say that when a developer puts money and thought into a project, they're ‘serious.’ I know about the process. Residents like me react swiftly and enthusiastically because the board and manager need to hear us react in that fashion. The plan as illustrated has no place butting up against a residential area. And Mr. Heilmann was right in alerting us, whether we believe it was out of turn or not. We in the area all accept the fact that it's a commercial zone, and some sort of business is going to go there. Just not this.”

John Crivellone: "If Larry Detjen is holding secret meetings to get a office building in Oak Lawn than more power to him. He most likely would have to do something like that to get around the backward thinkers in this town. For the last 20 years a large group of business people outside of the Chamber of Commerce have been petitioning the village for more offices and office space. But the old backward administrations just kept building condos and townhouses. Now we are finally seeing some progress in oak Lawn. An office complex is badly needed."
