Marist High School - Spring Update

So what is happening at Marist this spring?

So what is happening at this spring???

-The Marist Baseball and Softball team travelled to Charleston to compete against the best South Carolina had to offer.  The girls came home with an undefeated record of 6-0, while the boys finished an excellent 5-1.

-The Bass Fishing team placed 3rd in the Sectional Tournament which now allows them to compete in the State Tournament next week at Carlyle Lake in Southern Illinois.  The group looks to improve on their 12th place finish from a year ago.

-The spring band concert was a hit.  They played a very demanding set that included 9 pieces and the jazz band.

-This spring also marked the inaugural season for the Boys and Girls Lacrosse teams.  Both are off to a tremendous start and the programs have garnished a great amount of attention from our student body.

And the Marist journalism program is doing well, too! Our school newspaper won a National Scholastic Press Foundation "Best in Show" award at the national high school journalism convention in Seattle in April. The paper also won awards for excellence this year from the McCormick Foundation and the Northern Illinois Scholastic Press Association. Senior Dana Bisbee won a superior rating in commentary writing at the national convention, while senior Brian Laughran took 4th in state in editorial writing. Senior Lauren Styx took 6th in state in news writing. The newspaper staff also won a first place with special merit for excellence in newspaper publishing from the American Scholastic Press Association. RedHawk journalism is quality journalism!
