Oak Lawn Community High School After-School/Saturday Detention Information

With the 2013-14 school year well under way the deans’ office at Oak Lawn Community High School would like to remind parents of the After-School Detentions and Saturday Detentions protocols.  After-school detentions serve as our tier one student discipline intervention.  Students can receive detentions for attendance related infractions such as tardies/partial absences and for minor acts of misconduct in the classroom such as failure to adhere to the classroom rules.  After-school detentions are served on Mondays through Thursdays in Room 356.  Detentions begin at 3:10 and end at 4:00 p.m. Students can be picked up from detention at either the North or South Entrances. Students who need to reschedule the date of their detention should contact their dean.  To be admitted into the detention room, all students must arrive on time and with their school ID.  Students who fail to serve after-school detentions will receive a Saturday Detention.

Saturday Detention is a four-hour consequence from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the Student Cafeteria, during which students are required to pursue academic work. The detention is supervised by a staff member and under “quiet room” conditions.  Similar to after-school detentions students need to arrive on time and present their school ID.  Infractions that may lead to Saturday Detentions include, but are not limited to, cell phone violations and failure to serve after-school detentions. Students can be dropped-off and picked-up at the South (Spartan Lobby) Entrance.

Tardiness to a Saturday Detention is viewed as a failure to serve and may result in an external suspension. Students who fail to attend a Saturday detention will be assigned one to two days of external suspension. Parents/guardians are required to call the voice mail number, 708-741-5713, by 10:00 a.m. on the date of the assigned Saturday detention to inform the school of the reason for the student’s absence. After reviewing this message, the dean will determine if the reason stated is acceptable for rescheduling.
