Students Embrace New Teen Tech Week Format

Oak Lawn Community High School has committed itself to educating its students with 21st century technology.  Teen Tech Week, formerly known as National Library week, took place place April 7 through April 11. This year, however, the Media Center staff joined forces with the Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM) Club to host an entire week of technology informed and literary events.

STEM club sponsor Chris Repa reflected on the highlights of the week.  He believes the robotics competition on Thursday was the most exciting.  Held in the junior-senior lounge during all lunch periods, random students were constantly coming up to find out what was going on.  The winning team was so excited about their win that they ran around the lounge cheering and screaming.  25 students competed that day and all of them mentioned they had a great time.

Media Center specialist Eileen Jones feels that the highlight was how self directed and excited students were. Eileen said, “They gravitated toward the makerspace all on their own, making robotic cars, circuit robots, or just simply playing with the Legos. There was a certain sense of calm as they quietly delved into their project. The students seemed really responsive to it.”
