Pillar of Oak Lawn Community Dies at Age 83

The mother of three doctors also starred as lead actress in several 99th Street Theater shows.

Long-time Oak Lawn resident, teacher and community volunteer Ave Maria Green died Tuesday. She was 83.

Green graduated from Loretto High School and then St. Xavier College before becoming a Chicago Public School teacher. She and her late husband of 57 years, John M. Green were active parishioners of St. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in Oak Lawn. Green also supported Mother McAuley High School. There, she often volunteered to provide fashion show commentary and played the lead actress in Broadway shows at the 99th Street Theater.

Green was known as a “remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and friend.” She is survived by her five children and many grandchildren.

Visitation will occur Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 West 103rd Street. Services will be held Saturday at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 10621 S. Kedvale Ave.
