Obituary: George Sapulich, WWII Veteran and Renaissance Man

Sapulich was a gardener, musician, coal miner, soldier and was fluent in three languages.

George Sapulich, 86, a World War II U.S. Army Veteran, was laid to rest last week.

The Bridgeview resident was a beloved husband to Barbara, nee Barczak, for 58 years. He was a loving father of Mary Anne Sapulich and Joseph (Cathy) Sapulich, cherished grandfather of Joshua and Sara and dear brother of the late John, Mary, Anna Ignatowski, Sue Herko, and Michael.

His several talents included music, including time spent performing with the Harmonicats on live radio during the 1950s. Sapulich was fluent in German, Russian and Polish. He also worked in the Pennsylvania coal mines, owned a gas station, worked as a mechanic, gardened and practiced carpentry.

Services were held Thursday at Colonial Chapel in Orland Park and Queen of Martyrs Church in Evergreen Park.

Sapulich was buried at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
