Services Set for Mokena's Fallen Soldier Aaron Toppen

Funeral cortege for Army Pfc. Aaron Toppen will proceed from Midway Airport south on Cicero Avenue through local area Saturday, June 21.

Funeral arrangements have been set for Mokena's Aaron Toppen, one of five American troops killed earlier this month by friendly fire in Afghanistan.

Toppen will arrive at Midway Airport Saturday, June 21 at noon. An escort will carry him home to Mokena, along a route adorned with yellow ribbons in his honor. The route will travel south on Cicero Avenue to 159th Street, west to Harlem Avenue, then south to 191st Street. It will then head west on 191st Street to Wolf Road, then south.

Visitation will be held Monday, June 23 from 1 to 9 p.m. at Parkview Christian Church, 11100 Orland Parkway, Orland Park. Funeral will be held Tuesday, June 24 at 10 a.m., at Parkview. Family and friends ask for privacy from 9 to 10 a.m., when the doors will open to the public.

Toppen graduated from Lincoln-Way East High School in 2013. After his death, Toppen's rank was upgraded to private first class, Sun-Times Media reports

Just came back from Cicero avenue---so somber--so proud---to all the folks who lined Cicero we all know how sad it was but good to support Aaron and his family with south side pride. To those who were unable to sow up and support our local boy, not sure what to say.
