Issues with the workers during the primary

Was anyone else bothered that the person (in my case, a woman) asked out loud what party affiliation you were voting for?  Years ago, I had worked during elections and recall being specifically told NOT to ask out loud for their preference.  You were to ask for their name, slide the book over to the voter and ask that they check their preference ( R or D) and sign on the line.  Are instructions not being given  to the workers?  It has come up in discussions that this happens everywhere. One guy said that when he walks into his voting place, they call out 'here's the token republican!".  That's appalling.  With such a small amount of people showing up to vote in the primary, it should be easy for workers to follow guidelines.  I am upset with myself for not calling out the worker right away when it happened to me.
