Snickers Pants

While patrolling the Kmart parking lot at 4101 W. 95th St. the police officer noticed a man running away from the store around 9:30 a.m. Employees were following the man when one of them yelled to the officer: “He just stole from the store,” reports said. Police caught up with the man, identified as Willie J. Miles, 56, of Chicago, across the street at 95th Street and Pulaski. The employee positively identified Miles, who told police he saw Miles allegedly hiding candy inside his pants. Police found $164 worth of Snickers bars in Miles’ pant legs, reports said. He placed under arrest and charged with felony retail theft because of a previous retail theft conviction. Miles’ next court date is July 19 in Bridgeview.

Ump Slapped

An 18-year-old umpire was socked by a 29-year-old man who heckled and questioned the umpire’s calls during a youth baseball game at Kolb Field at 9825 S. Central Ave., reports said. Police responded to Kolb Field around 7:23 p.m. The umpire told the purported heckler to “sit down and shut up.” When the game was over, police said the man identified as Jimmy R. Mojica, of Justice, approached the umpire and said, “man, I’m an adult, you don’t talk to me that way.” Mojica allegedly struck the umpire’s face with his pal, knocking the umpire’s hat off. The umpire yelled, “why did you hit me. This is just a baseball game.” Police said there no visible marks on the umpire’s face, who refused medical treatment. A witness said he saw the umpire and Mojica talking but turned away before the alleged physical confrontation. Mojica told officers he knocked the umpire’s hat off, but did not strike him, police said. The Justice man was taken into custody and charged with battery. Mojica was advised not to return to Kolb Field, police said. A court date was set for July 10.

‘Who Moved My Vodka’

A 64-year-old man fell asleep in his TV room around 10:30 p.m. at his home in the 5500 block of West 99th Place. When he woke up after midnight, he noticed his Smirnoff vodka was missing from his kitchen counter and a bottle of Miller Lite had been removed from his refrigerator. Police said that the man found that the window screen had been torn and his front door open. The man told police that he has had problems in the past with a local man in the past, who kept asking him for alcohol. He did hear or see anyone while in his TV room. Police could not find the local man at his house, but left a contact card telling him to return the man’s vodka and beer.
