Attempted Child Abduction Reported Tuesday Afternoon in Oak Lawn

A dark-skinned male black driving a red or maroon minivan followed 14-year-old girl for four blocks on Pulaski Road at 3:09 p.m. Tuesday.

A dark-skinned, male black in his forties driving a red or maroon minivan heading southbound pulled up next to 14-year-old girl also walking southbound on the 9500 block of South Pulaski Road at 3:09 p.m. Tuesday.

The man followed the girl for four blocks and kept asking her to get into the van, police said. Police said the girl didn’t know the man and did not get into the van.

The minivan was last seen driving away southbound from the Oak Lawn area. The 14-year-old girl reported the incident to police. There is no further information.

Now that most schools are out for the summer, police are reminding parents and community members to reinforce the message to children to always walk in groups if possible, and to be aware of their surroundings. Should a stranger approach them, immediately rebuke any offers or inquiries.

Police have made available a composite sketch of the man described in Tuesday’s attempted child abduction.

Oak Lawn Police ask the public to call 911 if they see any suspicious vehicles. If you have knowledge of the individual in the sketch or witnessed the incident, please call 708-422-8292 and ask to speak to the detective division.
