CAR BURGLARIES: Handgun Stolen from Unlocked Car and MORE

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 13

Tote Bag Toted 

A 2005 Nissan Pathfinder was parked in the lot at LA Fitness, 8812 S. Cicero Ave., when someone smashed the front passenger window sometime before 7:55 p.m. The thief removed a tote bag on the front passenger floorboard.

Handgun Stolen from Unlocked Car

A 43-year-old woman who is a security officer reported that someone entered her Ford Edge parked in the 4900 block of West Wick Drive. According to the report, the security officer’s duty handgun, which was in a lock box on the rear floor, and GPS unit were both stolen sometime before 2:48 p.m. Police said the security officer thinks her remote starter control unit malfunctioned and prevented her doors from unlocking. The total loss is estimated at $450.

Smash and Grab

A woman said she parked her car in front of her house in the 10300 block of South Georgia Lane on Feb. 4. The next morning she discovered that her driver’s side window had been busted a CD player removed from the dashboard sometime before 6:45 a.m.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 2

Driveway Heist 

Someone entered an unlocked car in the 5200 block of West Oakdale Drive sometime before 11:04 a.m. and stole an iPod, DVD player and GPS unit.

Wallet Taken from Glove Box

While taking another car burglary report in the 5200 block of West Oakdale Drive, a resident approached the police officer to report that someone removed a wallet from the glove box of her unlocked Mercedes sometime before 11:26 a.m. The wallet contained a school ID. The car was parked in the driveway in the 10200 block of South Cook Avenue.

Easy Pickings

A 45-year-old man reported that his car was parked in the driveway under the carport in the 10100 block of South Buell Court around 1:52 p.m. When he went outside, he discovered that someone rifled through the center console and glove box, taking receipts, a pair of leather gloves, $2 in change and an old wallet. Police said the owner was not sure if he locked the car. Neighbors reported seeing footprints in the snow on their driveways but their cars were locked.

FRIDAY FEBRUARY 1

GPS Unit Grabbed

A man came into the Oak Lawn police station to report that his front windshield was busted while parked in the 10400 block of South Linder Avenue sometime before 5:30 p.m. The thief grabbed the man’s GPS unit.

THURSDAY JANUARY 31

Purse Stolen from Truck

Someone used a pry tool to break the driver’s side window out of a truck parked in the 8800 block of South Cicero Avenue sometime before 10 a.m. The thief swiped three credit cards and a driver’s license.

Fitness Center Grab

While parked in the lot at Charter Fitness, 4710 W. 95th St., and 18-year-old woman reported that someone smashed the window of her father’s car sometime before 8:13 p.m. The thief grabbed a backpack that was on the front passenger seat containing her school IDS, driver’s license, a $50 gift card, and $40 cash.
