Cops Say Woman Accused of DUI Had ‘Unusually Small Pupils’ At Crash Scene

A woman involved in a one-car crash with a light pole was charged with possession of drug equipment and driving under the influence on Jan. 10.

went to the scene of a crash in the 6700 block of West 95th Street around 10 p.m. because of reports of a car on fire with a woman inside.

When police arrived, there was no fire but saw that a black Ford Escort had run off the road and struck a light pole in a private parking lot. had removed Lori Y. Whitebourne, 39, of Calumet City, from the car who was unresponsive.

OLFD paramedics said that Whitebourne had “unusually small pupils” that would not dilate. She was in pain but able to speak in the ambulance. According to the report, Whitebourne told paramedics that she had drank earlier in the evening. Paramedics suspected that she may be under influence of drugs and took her to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

Police spoke to a female passenger in the car. She said she was asleep in the back seat at the time of the accident. The woman and Whitebourne had just dropped a friend off in Blue Island and were on their way to visit friends in Willow Springs. Police said the female passenger smelled of alcohol.

An ER nurse told police she found a glass pipe with black residue in Whitebourne’s “left breast.” In addition, she had two containers with several prescription pills, police said.

A prescription bottle that had Whitebourne’s information on it contained four different types of prescription medications including 20 .5mg tablets of Xanax; nine Nortriptyline Hydrochloride pills, seven Seroquel pills, 11 Ropinirole hydrochloride pills and five Tylenol with codeine.

Police said that a second 7-day pill-box contained other medications in the different day compartments, including 11 Acetaminophen, Butalbital caffeine pills, three Klonopin pills, and some yellow capsules that the hospital pharmacist couldn’t identify. None of the medications found were considered a controlled substance, although some required a doctor’s prescription.

Blood-alcohol test results showed Whitebourne at .22 above the legal .08 limit, and cocaine and opiates in her system, reports said.

Police found Whitebourne to be currently on parole, but that no warrant would be issued for her arrest by the Illinois Department of Corrections at the time of the report.

She was charged for possession of the pipe and driving under the influence of a combination of drugs. Her next court appearance is Feb. 16.
