Officers responded to a fight in progress between hospital security and a large group of visitors around 6:27 p.m. Nov. 17.

Security staff told police that approximately 20 visitors, who all came to visit the same patient, had been told several times to limit the number of guests in the patient’s room. The visitors became disruptive and refused to leave, reports said.

Officers went to the patient’s room and told the visitors that some of them had to go to the waiting room. Police said a man identified as Derrick Summers, 22, of Chicago, refused to leave and began arguing with the officers.

According to the police report, Summers pushed the officer in the chest and punched him in the face. As police tried to subdue Summers so they could take him in custody, an officer deployed his Taser to gain Summers’ compliance.

While police were subduing Summers, a woman identified as Princess Walters, 21, of Chicago, tried to pull the officer off of Summers, scratching the officer’s face and neck.

Police said when they arrived most of the group dispersed from the patient’s room.

Summers and Walters were each charged with one count of battery. They are due in court in Bridgeview on Dec. 21.

You have to wonder how many times the police have to go to Christ? My wife was in there last summer and I was floored by the clientele hanging around.. Late at night they're still congregating around the lobby, entrances and emergency room! Wouldn't surprise me if these same people commit 50% of the robbery and theft along 95th street between Pulaski and Harlem! The hospital should be paying huge fees for all the lowlifes they have brought into Oak Lawn!

Christ is the biggest employer in Oaklawn and those people shop and eat in Oaklawn. Its a joke that people complain about Christ. I know alot of employees who also live in Oaklawn. The lowlifes are there because it is the only trauma center on the southside.

I hope for the safety of the nurses, they ban all visitors for that patient & discharge him ASAP!

I seem to recall that the OLPD wanted to put a mini-police station at Christ years ago but the idea was nixed becacuse the police would have to carry guns on them. Looking back on that it WOULD have been a good idea to let the police carry thier guns. Who know what some of the folks visiting relatives are carrying?
