Cops Tase Man Breaking Up Christ Hospital Fight

Oak Lawn police arrested two people in connection to a fight at Advocate Christ Medical Center when visitors refused to leave a patient’s room, reports said.

Officers responded to a fight in progress between hospital security and a large group of visitors around 6:27 p.m. Nov. 17.

Security staff told police that approximately 20 visitors, who all came to visit the same patient, had been told several times to limit the number of guests in the patient’s room. The visitors became disruptive and refused to leave, reports said.

Officers went to the patient’s room and told the visitors that some of them had to go to the waiting room. Police said a man identified as Derrick Summers, 22, of Chicago, refused to leave and began arguing with the officers.

According to the police report, Summers pushed the officer in the chest and punched him in the face. As police tried to subdue Summers so they could take him in custody, an officer deployed his Taser to gain Summers’ compliance.

While police were subduing Summers, a woman identified as Princess Walters, 21, of Chicago, tried to pull the officer off of Summers, scratching the officer’s face and neck.

Police said when they arrived most of the group dispersed from the patient’s room.

Summers and Walters were each charged with one count of battery. They are due in court in Bridgeview on Dec. 21.
