Cops: Teen Car Burglar Says, 'I Was Acting Stupid'

Oak Lawn police arrested a Bridgeview teen when he tried to break into a car and was found with items he had taken from another car at Oak Lawn Community High School.

Michael Raymond Seno, 18, was charged with a felony for attempted car burglary and citied with possession of two grams of cannabis, police said.

A resident said he spotted Seno allegedly trying to break the side window on his car parked in front of his house in the 9400 block of South McVicker Avenue around 8:16 a.m. Feb. 12.

Police said the resident was inside his house when he heard a loud banging and went to the window where he saw Seno trying to pound his way into the resident’s car.

The resident went outside to tell Seno he had called police, who made no attempt to flee, reports said.

When police arrived, they asked Seno what happened. According to the report, Seno said he was walking down the street and saw a pack of cigarettes in the car and wanted them. There was also a cell phone visible on the front seat.

Police said that Seno admitted to trying to break into the car using a nearby rock. Seno’s backpack was removed prior to police handcuffing him, reports said.

Officers said they found two cell phones while searching Seno prior to handcuffing him. Seno was also carrying a backpack, which was confiscated by police, reports said.

At the Oak Lawn police station, officers searched Seno’s backpack, which was said to contain two more cell phones, an MP3 player, two GPS units and several containers of change. In addition to the electronics, police said they found two grams of what later tested positive for cannabis.

Seno allegedly told police that he was walking down the street when he “acted stupid.” He told police he tried to break the car window with a rock to steal the cigarettes, reports said.

Police said he denied going into other cars that day or in the past. The teen told police that a friend gave him the “stuff” found in his backpack, reports said.

Alsip police reported a similar car burglary from a man whose name was found on one of the containers of change in Seno’s possession.

Around 3:10 p.m. that same day, 46-year-old man reported that his unlocked car was entered while parked in the lot at Oak Lawn Community High School at 9440 S. Southwest Highway, police said.

A GPS unit plus $20 in loose change was reported taken from the vehicle. Seno allegedly was found with the same brand of GPS unit and large amount of change when he was arrested earlier in the day.

Police said Seno would not tell him where he picked up the items.

Seno was being held pending a bond court hearing on Feb. 13.
