Grandma Charged in Infant's Murder Mentally Unfit for Trial
A Cook County Circuit Court judge ruled Monday that Alfreda Giedrojc, of Oak Lawn, will be re-evaluated in a year to see if she can stand trial then, according to reports.
A judge ruled Monday that an Oak Lawn woman was charged with the gruesome murder of her granddaughter is mentally unfit to stand trial, according to a Sun-Times Media report.

Alfreda Giedrojc is accused with the Oct. 6 murder of Vivian Summers, her 5-month-old granddaughter. In an earlier video statement, Giedrojc claimed she repeatedly bludgeoning her granddaughter with a sledgehammer then slit the child's throat with a carving knife. Vivian's murder was the first in Oak Lawn in three years.
The ruling by a Cook County Circuit Court judge concurred with a psychiatrist's determination in May that Giedrojc, 62, was not mentally fit to stand trial at this time, the Sun-Times Media report stated. The judge took five minutes to hand down his ruling at Monday's fitness hearing, the report added.
The judge ordered Giedrojc back in court Aug. 28 to find out her treatment schedule, the report stated, adding that she will re-evaluated in a year to see if she is fit to stand trial after the treatment. Giedrojc will continue to be held at the Cook County Jail, where she has been since her Oct. 6 arrest, according to the report.
