Police stopped the car around 1:45 a.m. on the 6700 block of West 87th Street on the Oak Lawn/Burbank border after noticing it stopped at a traffic signal with no headlights, according to reports.

When the light turned green, police initiated a traffic stop as the car turned into a liquor store parking lot. Police said Martinez’s eyes were bloodshot and he had alcohol on his breath.

When the police officer returned to his squad, Martinez got out of the car and told the cop that he was looking for his ID, police said.

Police said Martinez failed field sobriety tests, and Martinez admitted to drinking “two beers.” The cop matched the car registration to Martinez’s passenger, Nieves. Police told Nieves he was free to go.

As Nieves left, he walked off the sidewalk and urinated against the fence, reports said. Nieves was then taken into custody, and both men were taken to the Oak Lawn police station.

While at the station, Martinez was found to have a revoked license with 12 stops for driving under the influence, six previous DUI convictions and three convictions for driving with a revoked license, reports said.

Police said Martinez refused to take a Breathalyzer test. Complaints were signed against both men.

Nieves is scheduled to appear in court on March 23 in Bridgeview.

Martinez was held pending a bond hearing.
