House Deemed Uninhabitable After Police Respond to Burglary Call

Police find belongings piled three feet high on the floor, standing water in basement and no electricity in Oak Lawn man's home.

The Oak Lawn public health inspector declared a home on the 5700 block of West 89th Street uninhabitable after police responded to a reported burglary at the residence on June 9.

Police responded to a burglary call after a 55-year-old man reported that someone entered his home and ransacked it around 7 p.m. The man said a brand-new camera and two long-barreled shotguns were missing. Police said there were no signs of forced entry into the house. The man told police that family members visited him two or three months ago, but he didn’t believe they would steal from him.

Police said the home was in complete disarray. The electricity was shut off and there was standing water in the basement. Belongings were piled two to three feet deep throughout the house.
