Oak Lawn Names Top Cop and Firefighter

Local Lions Club will honor the village police officer and firefighter of the year at 41st annual dinner.

Names of the Oak Lawn police officer and firefighter who will be receiving top honors at the were released today.

OLPD Brian Duffy and OLFD Lt. Vincent Griffin are being honored as the police officer/firefighter of the year for 2011-12 Tuesday evening at the Hilton Oak Lawn.

Peers nominate the top cop and firefighter and the recipients selected by an awards committee from both departments.

The “Police/Firefighter of the Year” award was launched in 1972. Local Lions wanted to recognize the village’s first responders who worked tirelessly to help neighbors recover from the tornado that decimated Oak Lawn in 1967.

Illinois State Fire Marshall Larry Matkaitis will deliver the keynote speech following the awards presentation.

The Lions' Law and Order Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 with a cash bar.
