Oak Lawn Police Warn Residents: 'Lock Your Car Doors'

Residents warned to lock their car doors after rash of car break-ins.

Oak Lawn Police issued an Everbridge emergency alert on Friday warning residents to lock their car doors because of several recent breakins. Despite being signed up for over a year to receive alerts from the village, Oak Lawn Patch did not get it. Instead, we heard about it from a Burbank resident who did get the alert.

The alert reads as follows:

"Oak Lawn Police are investigating several vehicle break ins that have occurred since 8/29/2013 during over night hours. Most incidents appear to be crimes of opportunity (Vehicles left unlocked). Detectives are following up on incidents where evidence has been recovered. Residents are reminded to lock their vehicles when unattended."

Has your vehicle been broken into? Did you receive the alert? Tell us in the comments.
