Oak Lawn Stolen Goods Now Online

has teamed up with PropertyRoom.com, an online auction site that takes items from police department property rooms and sells them to the public in a bidding process similar to eBay.

Founded by former police officers, Property Room is the largest online police auction site in the country. The site works with over 2,800 police departments and municipalities nationwide.

In the past, police departments offered unclaimed items at a live public auction. Property Room provides an online auction platform for selling unclaimed, seized, forfeited, found or surplus items that would otherwise take up space in property rooms of law enforcement agencies.

Some of the stolen goods from Oak Lawn featured on PropertyRoom.com include outdoor Christmas lawn decorations, rare coins including a half dollar from the 1893 Columbian Exposition, automatic watch winders and a Lawn Boy snow blower.

Property Room rigorously evaluates all merchandise listed on the site, and destroys all counterfeit merchandise. Each piece of merchandise includes information about its working and cosmetic condition, missing parts or accessories, and dimensions.

Items are shipped via USPS within a day of purchase. Bidding starts at $1.

Merchandise available for bidding covers every category of consumer goods, including watches, jewelry, coins, laptops, power tools and cars. Odd items from the website have included eight-person bikes, coffins, and most recently a state-of-the-art, unused X-ray machine.

More than 95 law enforcement agencies from Illinois have partnered with the Property Room, including the Chicago Police Department.

Since the online police auction site’s founding in 1999, PropertyRoom.com has given back more than $41 million in returned proceeds to participating police departments and municipalities.
