OL Fire Department Offers FREE Smoke Detectors to Residents

The Oak Lawn Fire Department is well stocked with smoke detectors, which are available at no cost to residents. OLFD will also install them in you need help.

In light of Saturday morning’s deadly house fire in which there were no working smoke detectors, Oak Lawn Fire Chief George Sheets wants residents to know that FREE smoke detectors are available to anyone in need.

Home Depot has generously donated a large number of smoke detectors to the village. Chief Sheets said that neighborhood fire stations are well stocked.

OLFD will also help residents install the smoke detectors AT NO COST, and check current battery/hardwired detectors to ensure that they are in working order.

If you, a neighbor, or an elderly or disabled family members are in need of a smoke detector, pick one up at your neighborhood fire station or call one of these numbers.

  • Fire Station 3 - 9446 Raymond (on 53rd Court)

Also, in a continuing effort to educate the public in fire safety measures, the Oak Lawn Fire Department offers home safety inspections by request to resident at no cost. Department personnel will visit your home to review your smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, heating devices, electrical cords and all exits to your home.
