Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by SUV in Oak Lawn: Police

Oak Lawn police continue to investigate accident in which a 57-year-old man died when he was struck by an SUV crossing 95th Street and Cicero Avenue on Saturday evening.


A 57-year-old man who was struck while crossing an Oak Lawn intersection on Saturday evening has died of injuries, police said in a news release.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the pedestrian as Noel Finnerty, whose last known address is the 9600 block of South Homan Avenue in Evergreen Park.

Finnerty died of craniocerebral injuries caused by being struck by an SUV, the medical examiner’s office said.

Police said that Finnerty was struck at 10:12 p.m. Saturday by a 2010 Toyota RAV4 driven by a 29-year-old Tennessee man. Witnesses on the scene told police that Finnerty was possibly crossing Cicero Avenue in an easterly direction.

The Toyota was traveling south on Cicero Avenue approximately 100 feet south of 95th Street when the Toyota struck the pedestrian.

The pedestrian was taken to Advocate Christ  Medical Center where he died a short time later.

Traffic on Cicero Avenue was temporarily reduced to three lanes for approximately two hours while Oak Lawn police investigated the accident.

No traffic citations have been issued and the accident is still under investigation, police said.
