Pedestrian Hit by Truck At Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue

A female pedestrian was struck by a truck Thursday morning crossing the intersection of 93rd Street/Southwest Highway and Cicero Avenue. Road will be closed for several more hours.

"On 05-24-12 at approximately 8:13 am Oak Lawn police and Fire units were dispatched to a pick-up truck vs pedestrian crash at Southwest highway and Cicero ave. Oak Lawn Illinois.
Responding units found a severely injured pedestrian lying on Cicero ave. The driver of the pick-up truck was on the scene. The pedestrian was taken to Advocate Christ hospital with serious injuries.
The information available at this time indicates the pedestrian was walking across Southwest Highway from the north to the south on the west side of Cicero ave.

The Oak Lawn Police department traffic crash unit is currently conducting an investigation into the incident. Traffic at Southwest Highway and Cicero ave is being diverted until the on scene investigation is completed.

were processing the scene which is presently closed to all traffic. Chief Bill Villanova said the female pedestrian was crossing 93rd Street on the west side of Cicero when a truck traveling eastbound on 93rd Street with the green light hit her in the crosswalk.

"We're not sure exactly where she was in the crosswalk," Villanova said. "The impact took her across the intersection. We haven't identified her yet. We don't know who she is."

The unidentified pedestrian was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

A pile of clothing lay in the street just east of Cicero Avenue where 93rd Street becomes Southwest Highway. The green pickup truck that police said struck the woman was parked at the curb.

Numbered evidence placards marked places in the intersection where the pedestrian’s belongings and pieces of the truck had landed as police officers worked to build an accurate sequence of events at the intersection.

Oak Lawn police officers were taking measurements and reconstructing the accident scene. Villanova said the intersection would be closed for several more hours.

The eastbound lane of 93rd Street was closed between 49th Court and east of Cicero Avenue on Southwest Highway. Westbound traffic is being diverted from 93rd Street to 49th Court.
