Police Blotter: Bagel Barrage, Copper Heist, Painted Pitchfork

Oak Lawn police reports, May 9-14.

SATURDAY, MAY 14

Car Littered with Garbage and Bagels

A 68-year-old woman found her 2002 Saturn filled with garbage and bagels on the 5000 block of West Wick Drive. The vandals also threw bagels all over the outside of the Saturn sometime before 9 a.m. The woman told the cops that her doors were unlocked. Police classified the act as “malicious mischief.”

Copper Theft

Employees arrived at a construction site on the 10500 block of South Cicero Avenue around 7 a.m. only to discover that thieves had ripped off all the copper water pipes. The metal wall framing also was missing. Damages were estimated at $10,000 to replace the copper pipes and $5,000 to replace the damaged framing.

Gang Graffiti

Police found an upward pitchfork graphic painted on a light pole owned by the village on the 8900 block of 53rd Court at 10:43 a.m. 

TUESDAY, MAY 9

Cops Say Knock It Off

An 18-year-old woman came to the Oak Lawn police station on May 10 to report that she was being harassed by her ex-boyfriend. The woman said that around 9:15 p.m. the evening before, a car with her ex-boyfriend inside pulled alongside of her car on the 4000 block of West 99th Street. Her ex-boyfriend was in the front seat and a friend was driving. Another man that she had never seen before got out of the back seat and slapped the woman's car, calling her derogatory names, according to the report. The woman reported the incident as a matter of record. Police called the ex-boyfriend and left him a voicemail message, telling him to knock it off.
