POLICE BLOTTER: Burglars Net Cash, Credit Cards, Jewels, Laptop in Three Burglaries

Stolen Tools

Approximately $10,000 in tools were stolen from a garage on the 9700 block of South Rutherford Avenue, include batteries and chargers, cutters, cordless drills, air tools, wrenches, sockets, ratchets and more. The owner discovered the theft at 9 a.m.

Person of Interest Questioned in Sproat Burglary

A woman woke up out of a deep sleep to see a man in her home on the 8700 block of South Sproat Avenue and screamed for her male roommate around 3 a.m. Police said the man was leaning over the door of her bedroom and left the house when she screamed out. At first she assumed it was her roommate until the man stood up with her purse in hand. She described the man as white, wearing dark shorts and having extremely short hair. The purse contained $80 cash, her ID, passport and credit cards. According to the roommates, the back door is always left unlocked. Police searched the area and stopped a baldheaded man wearing dark shorts walking eastbound on 87th Street from 49th Avenue. The man, who has a Chicago address, told police he had just been dropped off in an alley by his girlfriend. He was taken to the Oak Lawn police station for questioning. The report did not indicate if charges were made.

Home Ransacked in 88th Street Break-in

Someone broke into a home on the 5100 block of West 88th Street sometime before12:15 p.m. The homeowner discovered that someone pried open the front door and entered the house, ransacking bedrooms and a home office. The thief or thieves carted off a laptop computer, $7,000 in cash and jewelry in two pillowcases taken from the home, reports said. A neighbor told police that he saw a gray car occupied by two black men sitting in the homeowner’s driveway around noon. The neighbor could not provide any additional details. The homeowner things it may be a tenant he evicted from a rental property for failure to pay rent.
