Alternative Energy Salesman Nabbed on Warrant

Police responded to a suspicious person call on the 5600 block of West 99th St. around 12:45 p.m. A caller reported a man wearing an orange jacket who claimed to work for ComEd. The caller contacted ComEd who said they did not have anyone working in the area. Police stopped Jeffrey Lowery, 19, of Chicago, who was wearing an orange jacket and told officers that he was in the neighborhood trying to sign up new customers for an alternative energy company, reports said. Lowery was advised that he was not allowed to solicit without a permit. Police ran his name through the database, which revealed that Lowery had an active warrant issued Jan. 24 out of McHenry County for failure to appear in court on a larceny charge.

Five-Finger Discount

A man entered the Kmart at 11100 S. Cicero Ave. around 12:30 p.m. and walked out with two 32-inch flat screen TVs, police said. A store loss-prevention officer told police that the man grabbed a cart and headed straight for the electronics department. He removed two boxed TVs and placed both into the cart. The man proceeded to the front doors and left without paying for the TVS. Another employee working at the customer serve desk told police the man had to set down one of the TVs to open the door.  He set off the security alarm as he went to a pickup truck that was parked in the fire lane. The truck was last seen fleeing westbound on 111th Street.  The employee described the alleged shoplifter as a black male in his late 20s to mid 30s wearing dark clothing, around six-feet-tall, with a thin build. The pickup was an early 1990s GMC model, red with a beige stripe in the middle with rust. An off-duty Oak Lawn police officer also saw the truck, which he described a maroon colored, with an out-of-state license plate.
