Burglars Leave Condo Nice and Neat

Burglars snatched a laptop, clothes and jewelry from a condo on the 9700 block of South Keeler Avenue sometime before 6 p.m. The condo owner told police she came home around 5:30 p.m. after her daughter called to remind her to bring the laptop to her cousin’s house. When she went into her daughter’s bedroom, she found the dresser drawers open with numerous jewelry items and watches gone, as well as $1,500. Police said there no signs of forced entry. The condo was neat and did not appear ransacked. A neighbor said he was home all day and did not hear or sing anything suspicious.

Couple Found Roaming Through Christ Hospital

A man and a woman were charged with criminal trespassing after security found them roaming through Advocate Christ Medical Center, reports said. Public safety officers said they had kicked Joseph Fernandez, 20, of Merrionette Park and Ashley Turner Mallet, 24, of Lansing, out of the medical center when they spotted walking through hospital around 3:30 p.m. Both were asked if they were visiting a patient or needed medical treatment, police said. When they said no, they were told to leave the premises. An hour later, public safety officers received a call from the nurses’ desk about a man and woman entering and exiting the bathroom possibly doing drugs, police said. Public safety officers arrived and found that Fernandez and Mallet had not left the hospital as instructed, according to the report. Officers patted them down and found Mallet to be carrying four hypodermic needles. Police said the needles had been flushed with water and no residue was left for the needles to be tested for drugs. Both denied any alleged drug abuse. Fernandez and Mallet were taken into custody and charged with criminal trespassing. Mallet was also found to have a valid warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of retail theft in Markham, reports said. Her bail was sent in the amount of $50,000. They are scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1.
