POLICE BLOTTER: Woman Makes Off With Aleeve and Vitamins, Disturbing Crank Calls
Oak Lawn police reports, March 30 through April 4.
WEDNESDAY APRIL 4
Over-the-Top Crank Caller
A caller badgered Oak Lawn’s 911 emergency communications center with 14 crank calls in the span of 20 minutes starting at 4:48 p.m. The male caller told dispatchers that he lived on the 9500 block of South Austin Avenue, then changed it to the 9400 block. There are no such addresses in Oak Lawn, police said.
The caller told dispatchers that he was cutting potatoes and accidentally cut off his 3-year-old daughter’s head. In 14 rapid fire phone calls, he alternately told 911 dispatchers that he put his daughter’s body in the refrigerator but could still see her face; pretended to be his grandfather and then said he killed him; threatened to cut off his penis because he was a sex offender; and was going to burn his daughter’s body and use the ashes for coffee. Police said the calls were made from a prepaid phone. They searched the area around Austin Avenue but could not find the crank caller.

FRIDAY, MARCH 30
Felony Retail Theft
A woman was charged with felony retail theft after police said she stole 19 bottles of the pain reliever Aleeve and vitamins from Kmart at 4101 W. 95th St. The loss prevention officer told police watched a woman identified as Alice R. Coy, 48, of Chicago, allegedly select numerous over-the-counter medications off the shelves and stash them in her coat pocket. When Coy passed the registers without paying, the loss prevention officer confronted her and escorted her back to the security office, police said. Coy was taken to the Oak Lawn police station, where a metal pipe used to smoke crack cocaine was found in her purse. Police said Coy only admitted to taking some items, but police found she had 19 stashed in her shirt and coat. According to reports, she paid $2 in bus fare to take the Pace bus from Chicago to Oak Lawn. She didn’t intend to pay for the merchandise because “I didn’t have any money,” police said. Coy allegedly admitted to stealing from the Kmart before and selling bottles of Aleeve and vitamins in her neighborhood for $4 each. She was charged with felony retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. She appeared in court at 26th and California on March 31.
