Police: Man Found Unconscious From Heroin Overdose in Basement

Friend who called 911 said that he and unconscious man had visited a methadone clinic earlier in the day, police say.

A 33-year-old man was found unconscious in a friend’s basement after he injected himself with heroin on May 21, reports said.

went to a home on the 9700 block of South Merton Avenue where the man’s friend met them around 5:17 p.m. He told police that the man was unconscious in his parents’ basement and believed he may have overdosed on heroin.

Police said earlier in the day both men were at a methadone clinic in the city and took the 95th Street bus to a fast food restaurant in Chicago Ridge. The friend said he didn’t see the man take any heroin.

While at the restaurant, the man excused himself to use the bathroom. After they ate, they went back to the friend’s house. The man was sitting in a chair and began coughing, before falling unconscious out of the chair.

At the hospital, the man was conscious and answered the officer’s questions. He admitted to purchasing a bag of heroin for $10 in the city. The man injected himself in the fast food restaurant’s bathroom, police said.
