Sgt. Patrick Barron of the Oak Lawn Police Department said the woman had just withdrawn $40 from an ATM in the drive-through lane of the bank when a male white teen approached her car.
The teen displayed a knife and demanded the woman’s money. After taking her $40, he took off running westbound on 111th Street, Barron said.
According to Southtown Star, the alleged robber got into a car that was parked nearby that sped away.
Barron was not aware of any vehicles involved in the robbery, only that the teen suspect ran away.
Bank of America remained open for business after the incident, although three security guards were stationed outside the bank's main entry door.
Barron said the FBI would not be getting involved in the investigation because it was an armed robbery that occurred on bank property, not an actual bank robbery.
The Bank of American branch at 111th Street and Pulaski was the scene of a 12-hour standoff in June between police and an alleged robber. The suspect was found stuck in an air duct.
Ask the robber to please wait while you get your gun from your pocket, purse, holster? Just go around with the gun in your hand all the time? Start shooting as he runs away? Concealed carry would be useful in certain situations. Advocates that insist it would stop every robbery, mugging, assault etc. are not helping to advance their cause.
