Police: Woman Robbed at Knife-Point in Bank Drive-Through

Woman was using ATM at Bank of America; suspect described as male white teen.

A woman using the ATM at Bank of America at 111th Street and Pulaski Road was robbed at knife-point around 3 p.m. Friday, police said.

Sgt. Patrick Barron of the Oak Lawn Police Department said the woman had just withdrawn $40 from an ATM in the drive-through lane of the bank when a male white teen approached her car.

The teen displayed a knife and demanded the woman’s money. After taking her $40, he took off running westbound on 111th Street, Barron said.

According to Southtown Star, the alleged robber got into a car that was parked nearby that sped away.

Barron was not aware of any vehicles involved in the robbery, only that the teen suspect ran away.

Bank of America remained open for business after the incident, although three security guards were stationed outside the bank's main entry door.

Barron said the FBI would not be getting involved in the investigation because it was an armed robbery that occurred on bank property, not an actual bank robbery.

The Bank of American branch at 111th Street and Pulaski was the scene of a 12-hour standoff in June between police and an alleged robber. The suspect was found stuck in an air duct.

MM November 24, 2012 at 10:09 am
So the guy with the knife could use a gun instead?
Luther November 24, 2012 at 02:10 pm
So, hows that work?
Ask the robber to please wait while you get your gun from your pocket, purse, holster? Just go around with the gun in your hand all the time? Start shooting as he runs away? Concealed carry would be useful in certain situations. Advocates that insist it would stop every robbery, mugging, assault etc. are not helping to advance their cause.

It's the thought that a LAW ABIDING citizen could have a gun that would be the first deterent. Criminals play off having the upperhand with a weapon. Once a few have stared down the other end of a barrel the mindset will begin to shift.

Well you cant even go to a drive throw with out getting held up. This is a shame. I always keep something ready when ever I go to one. They will get a very loud surprise when they try it..... It would not be worth 40.00 I know that for sure

tmarc75 November 26, 2012 at 01:59 pm
Criminals don't buy guns legally in most cases so your point is irrelevant.
tmarc75 November 26, 2012 at 01:59 pm
I like your style

Why should the criminal have the illegal weapon when a law abiding citizen con not. I agree time for our elected officials to pass conceal/ carry law asap .

Re:Phinnigin. I agree!! Most establishments do not have hot water in the restrooms!!! However, whyRead More can't restaurants install hand sanitizer behind the counter? The Popeye's in Burbank has a hand sanitizer installed behind the counter, but honestly, the employees hardly ever use it, which is why, after a horrible experience at that location last July, I have not patronized ANY Popeye's since!!!
