Resident Shooting Squirrels Charged with Disorderly Conduct

Police recovered air guns and BBs from apartment of 20-year-old man accused of shooting at squirrels.

Oak Lawn police responded to a call from a citizen who complained that a man and his friends were shooting at squirrels from the balcony of an apartment building on Dec. 15.

John A. Hannah, 20, of the 10300 block of South Komensky Avenue was cited for disorderly conduct and is to appear in court today in Bridgeview.

Police met with the neighbor who lives behind Hannah’s apartment building who called in the complaint. She identified Hannah and two other males that she saw shooting squirrels around 2:45 p.m., police said.

According to the report, when police met with Hannah’s father he told them that he knew his son “was up to something” when he was out on the balcony.

Hannah was not home but returned to the apartment after his father told him to come home. While waiting for Hannah to return home, police recovered vintage Remington 1200 air rifle on the balcony along with a container of copperhead steel BBs. Police said they also found a Corman T4 BB pistol next to the sliding patio door.

Police said that Hannah admitting to shooting at squirrels out of the trees “because they were nesting in his car.” Hannah was taken to the Oak Lawn police station where he was charged with disorderly conduct.

Hannah’s father also told the cops to remove the air guns and BBs from the apartment.

The other men were not charged because Hannah told them they weren’t shooting, police said.
