While it wasn't the photo finish from last year, two ducks battled for second and third for some last minute thrills in the Oak Lawn Professional Firefighters' Second Annual Rubber Ducky Race on July 4.

Hundreds of Oak Lawn residents followed the firefighters' patriotic duck float at the end of the village Independence Day Parade to .

sold 800 ducks and sponsorships including Oak Lawn Patch, , , , , Little Company of Mary Hospital, , Jack's Towing, the OLFD Club and raising over $10,000 for the and Megan Hurckes Foundation.

Prize sponsors included , Pazzo Salon and Spa, , , , and .

Fifteen winners won themselves iPads, a ride to school in a fire truck, a slumber party at the Children's Museum, Kindles, Nooks and other prizes.

There was no "fowl" play and only minimal human intervention to help some of the duckies that became trapped in the swirling currents of the drain pipe during the race.

Don't worry--firefighters retrieved their little yellow friends from the lake and gave them a good bathing before being put into storage for next year.
