Saturday Fire in Oak Lawn Claims 2nd Life: Caregiver Dies Tuesday

The Oak Lawn fire chief said the identity of the woman who died Tuesday will be released at a later date.

The caregiver to an elderly woman killed in a Saturday house fire succumbed to her own injuries Tuesday and also died, said Oak Lawn Fire Chief George Sheets.

Sheets said the caregiver's identity will be released at a later date. He did not know the cause of her death.

The caregiver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center after the early morning fire. Chief Sheets, who announced the death at Tuesday night's Oak Lawn Village Board meeting, said he did not know if the woman died at Advocate Christ or had been transferred.

The older woman found dead in the house on Lawrence Court was on a couch in the living room.

Both women died from fire-related injuries. Sheets said there were no working smoke detectors inside the home.

An Oak Lawn firefighter injured his elbow battling the blaze.
