Motorcyclist Hospitalized in Southwest Highway Crash

The crash closed traffic on the highway Tuesday afternoon.

Update 7 p.m. A motorcyclist was hospitalized Tuesday in a crash that closed Southwest Highway and backup up traffic in the area.

Emergency crews were called at about 2:32 p.m. to a crash involving a van and a motorcycle near 113th and Southwest Highway. The motorcycle driver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

It was immediately unclear how serious the injuries to the driver were.

Original story: A crash involving a motorcycle and truck on Southwest Highway has closed a section of the road from 111th Street to Cal Sag Road, police said.

Crews from Palos Park and Palos Heights are at the scene of the crash.

School buses have been rerouted and commuter traffic is being detoured around the area.

It was unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash.

If he lived, that is great, but the Palos Hills officer told me directly that it was fatal. I'd be so happy if it wasn't.

Thank you for commenting. I'd like to keep this conversation in a constructive direction and say it's a really good idea to drive safely and use extra caution whenever motorcycles are around.

Was the truck driver ticketed forailure to yield right of way? Was he ticketed at all? I know it's a stereotype, but people I've known from South Korea have been riding motorcycles all their lives in all kinds of weather (cars are too expensive for young people there) and "road rage" or reckless driving is very rare, UNLESS they see a foreigner driving, then an accident "happens" and the foreigner can't leave the country until the native, and police, are "satisfied".
