South Suburban DUI Arrests, May 6

April 15: Maria C. Denardo, 54, of the 12900 block of Woodland Drive in Homer Glen, was arrested around 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of La Grange Road and 167th Street in Tinley Park. Police said Denardo was driving erratically, veering across lane lines. Her eyes were bloodshot and watery, according to the report. Asked if she had been drinking, Denardo told police that she'd had six vodka and lemonades, the report said. She failed field sobriety tests, according to police, and was charged with improper lane use, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08.

April 7: Police stopped Jeffrey M. Turner, 26, of the 800 block of Brigantine Drive in New Lenox, around 1:45 a.m. near the intersection of 167th Street and Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park. Officers said they saw Turner swerving about 1 foot over the lane lines while driving southbound on Harlem Avenue. He didn't immediately stop for police when they activated their emergency lights, they said. He failed field sobriety tests and blew a .229 on the Breathalyzer. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08, driving a vehicle with one headlight and improper lane use, police said.

April 30: William E. Erickson, 36, of the 11500 block of Natchez Avenue in Worth was charged with driving under the influence, driving on a suspended license and speeding. Police said Erickson failed field sobriety tests after his car was stopped in the 11900 block of Harlem Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

April 29: Justin A. Weiss, 35, of the 11500 block of Joalyce Drive in Alsip was charged with DUI, operation of uninsured motor vehicle and failure to wear seat belt. Police said Weiss failed all field sobriety tests after his car was stopped in the 12200 block of Harlem Avenue around 1:45 a.m.

April 29: Cesar Goday, 24, of Chicago Heights, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said they stopped Goday’s speeding 1993 Infinity near 173rd Street and Halsted after seeing him cross violently over and across both lanes of northbound Halsted traffic and nearly strike a concrete median. Goday had a blood-alcohol concentration of .159 about 20 minutes after he was arrested at 4:38 a.m. He was also charged with driving while license suspended and driving without proof of insurance.

April 28: Eugene Nettles, 37, of Hazel Crest, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said they received reports of a motorist driving at a high rate of speed “all over the road” around 2:41 a.m. After stopping Nettles, police said they smelled alcohol on his breath and cannabis from inside his vehicle. According to reports, Nettles told police he had been drinking at a friend’s house, but it was they, not he, who had toked. He was also ticketed for speeding and driving with expired registration.

April 15: Police were called about a dispute in the 15600 block of 94th Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Dispatch told the officer that a woman who called was in the parking lot in a red Dodge Charger and she sounded intoxicated, according to the report. Police found the Charger, the driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and she slurred her speech, police said. She later failed field sobriety tests, police said. Tamika L. Berry, 34, of the 17200 block of 71st Court in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

April 14: Police saw a passenger in a parked car duck as he passed in the 15800 block of Wolf Road around 2:35 a.m. The car’s engine was running and the driver said they were waiting for friends, police said. Police saw opened bottles of wine coolers in the car, according to the report. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, she slurred her speech and she failed field sobriety tests, police said. Victoria R. Hale, 24, of the 3700 block of West 79th Street in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08 and driving with a suspended license.

April 27: Michael Ceci, 49, of Joliet, was charged with driving under the influence of marijuana, speeding and driving without insurance. Police said Ceci was speeding near Route 30 and Gougar Road at about 7 p.m., and after stopping him discovered he was under the influence. He was issued tickets and released.

April 20: Kathleen Hurley, 47, of the 700 block of Lake Road in New Lenox, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said she hit another car when it backed out of a parking lot at Cherry Hill Road and East Washington Street. The other driver, William Yearton, 48, of Joliet, was cited for an improper U-turn and the failure to yield. Hurley was taken to Silver Cross Hospital with a gash on her head.

April 19: A man driving a car without a court-ordered breath-alcohol monitoring device was charged with felony DUI when police found his car parked diagonally across several parking lanes, reports said. Oak Lawn police were called to a private parking lot around 3:06 p.m. where several people were standing outside the car, including the driver identified as James Thomas Kapelinski, 49, of the 10400 block of South Georgia Lane. While attempting to park, witnesses told the cops that Kapelinski allegedly hit another unoccupied car. Police said that witnesses stopped Kapelinski from fleeing the scene by taking his keys away because he was intoxicated.

April 25: Ernest D. Lopez, 36, of Plainfield was arrested on a felony charge of driving under the influence in the 3500 block of West 95th Street at 1:42 a.m. A patrol officer reportedly stopped Lopez's car for failure to signal. During the stop, the officers smelled a strong odor of alcohol, according to reports. Lopez failed several sobriety tests and officers also reportedly discovered that Lopez had a revoked driver's license. He was also cited for failure to signal when required and no proof of insurance.



April 28: Gerardo Alvarez, 29, of the 200 block of East 23rd Street, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of Union Avenue and 22nd Street just after 1:45 a.m., according to the report.
