VIDEO: Prosecutor Speaks on Charges in Baby Homicide

Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Michael Deno reads the criminal complaint against Oak Lawn resident Alfreda Giedrojc, 61, whose been charged with first degree murder in the death of her 6-month-old granddaughter, Vivian Summers.

Oak Lawn Police discovered the gravely injured infant Sunday morning while answering a call of an armed subject in the 6600 block of West 91st Street.
According to the criminal complaint read a bond hearing at the Bridgeview court house on Monday afternoon, Giedrojc beat the baby with a sledgehammer that she allegedly placed in her closet the night before.

When the infant did not stop moving or crying, the prosecutor said Giedrojc went into the kitchen to retrieve a carving knife. She picked the baby up, held her, and slit her throat.

Vivian was later pronounced dead by medical staff at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

The grandmother allegedly admitted to the acts in a video statement given to police.

Giedrojc is currently being held without bail at Cook County Jail. Her next court appearance is on Oct. 28.
