WARRANTS: Police Crack Down On Fugitives

Police track down wanted fugitives through random license plate checks, disturbances and assisting county sheriff.

Random Plate Check Turns Up Fugitive

A Chicago man was arrested on an outstanding warrant when his car was spotted in the parking lot of an Oak Lawn motel on Jan. 11.

were patrolling the parking lot of the Midway Inn at 9320 S. Cicero Ave. around 11:45 p.m. The officer conducted a random plate check on a silver Hyundai Sonata that showed the registered owner, Tony Arevalo, 49, was wanted on an outstanding warrant, reports said.

Police confirmed with the desk clerk that Arevalo was staying at the motel. They went to his room where Arevalo confirmed that he was the registered guest and owner of the Hyundai, police said.

Arevalo was taken into custody on a warrant for domestic battery out of Villa Park on a bond of $10,000. Oak Lawn police held him in lockup pending pickup by Villa Park police.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 8

Name Actually Appeared on Cook County Sheriff’s Fugitive Warrant List

Oak Lawn police went to the home of Matthew Grela, 26, in the 6300 block of W. 92nd Place, to execute a Cook County Sheriff’s warrant around 9:15 p.m. Jan. 8. Grela’s mother answered the door and took police down to the basement where her son was sitting on the couch. Grela identified himself and was taken into police custody on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. There was no bail. Grela appeared in court the next day.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 7

Disturbance At Pizzeria

A man causing a disturbance at a pizzeria was picked up on an outstanding warrant with a $5,000 bond on Jan. 7, reports said.

Oak Lawn police went to Beggars Pizza at 10240 S. Central Ave. after receiving a complaint of an intoxicated man yelling at employees, police said.

Michael A. Bennett, 50, of the 10600 block of South Central Avenue, was found in the alley drinking a can of beer when police arrived around 9:40 p.m. Police ran Bennett’s name through the database and learned that he had an active warrant out of Cook County for a conditional release violation on a disorderly conduct charge. Bennett was taken into police custody. The manger said he didn’t wish to pursue the matter further but just wanted Bennett removed from the restaurant, the report said.
