Wife Calls Hubby At Work: 'I Think Someone's in the House'

Police find signs of forced entry on door from possible home invader, reports said.

A woman got a scare when she heard the house shake while her husband was at work.

Oak Lawn Police were summoned to a possible burglary in progress in the 9800 block of South Melvina Avenue around 10:29 p.m. Dec. 30, according to police.

The wife was reading a book in bed when she heard a loud noise and felt the house shake, police said. She described the noise as similar to the sound her husband makes when he's plowing snow off the driveway.

She got out of bed, looked out the window and saw a small, "black beater"-type car in the parking lot across the street. Police said she called out to her husband, thinking he came home and broke something in the house.

When he didn’t answer back, she called her husband at work, who told her to call 911. While speaking to her husband, she said she felt as if someone was still inside the house.

Police said the wife went back upstairs to put on some clothes and noticed the black car was gone from the lot.

Meanwhile, the husband rushed home and met officers at his house. After making sure his wife was safe, he showed police the rear door leading into the back porch. Police found the door kicked in and the window on a storm door was also shattered.

The husband assured police the doors are always locked when he leaves for work.

Police said the wife thinks she has seen the black car before in the neighborhood, driving up and down Melvina with a very loud muffler.
