Woman Attacked in Palos Hills Park

Police are warning residents about an attack and attempted robbery near Pleasure Lake.

Police are searching for man who attacked and demanded money from a woman near a Palos Hills lake.

The woman was not hurt in the Wednesday afternoon attack, said Palos Hills Deputy Chief James Boie. A search of Pleasure Lake Park hasn't turned up the attacker, who might be homeless and possibly living in the area. Police are continuing their search.

The woman walked into a nearby North Palos Fire Protection District building after the attack, which happened at about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday. She told police she was exercising on a path that runs around the lake when a man knocked her off a bike and asked for money. The attacker ran off when he found out she didn't have any cash.

She described the attacker as white, 6-feet tall, stocky, about 40 years old and fair-skinned. He was wearing a blue polo shirt and ragged jean shorts. The woman said she believes the man is homeless.

Pleasure Lake is near 108th and Roberts Road.

In a phone message on Thursday, Palos Hills Police Chief Paul Madigan asked residents to be careful in heavily wooded area near Pleasure Lake and to report anything suspicious.

I can see it now. Girl with a concealed gun riding her bike gets knocked over. Gun falls out of her reach but attacker picks it up and then shoots her. Or maybe this... Girl with a concealed gun rides her bike past a stranger who is also carrying a concealed gun. Stranger has the upper hand due to the element of surprise. Stranger aims weapon at girl who then, is so shaken in fear for her life, not only soils herself but grabs her concealed weapon, only to be shot by the stranger before she can even draw her weapon. Joe, you watch too much tv. Just because someone carries a gun does not make them safe. The bad guys you see on tv dont have that bad aim in real life, and the good guys on tv are not going to outrun the bullets and avoid getting shot. Dont get me wrong, I support ownership of (non-assault)guns, but I dont think conceal carry is the answer to every armed robbery, assault, or shooting spree massacre. Population control, on the other hand, conceal carry just might be the answer.
