Can Ex-Convict Mel Reynolds Take Back the Second District?

The former congressman has a dark cloud over his head after going to jail for having sex with a minor in 1995.

Would you vote for a convicted sex offender? That's not the question former congressman Mel Reynolds says you should ask yourself.

Jesse Jackson Jr.'s predecessor lost his seat in 1995, after he was convicted of criminal sexual assault and solicitation of child pornography and sentenced to two-and-a-half years in state prison. While he was there he was also convicted of federal financial and campaign fraud charges.

With Jackson gone, Reynolds wants his old job back.

"I'm not perfect and if you're perfect, I'm not appealing to you. I'm appealing to people who want to take a fair look at all of my history, all of my work, all of my education, what I've done since those times, what I've done before those times. That's all I'm asking," Reynolds told Tribune reporters.

Reynolds was released from prison in 2001 after President Bill Clinton commuted his sentence.

Read more about Reynolds' election bid in the Tribune article.

Reynolds has plenty of competition, including former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson and Jackson's recent opponents Marcus Lewis and the Rev. Anthony W. Williams. Newly re-elected State Sen. Toi Hutchinson has also announced plans to put together a campaign.

Gov. Pat Quinn set a special primary election date for Feb. 26, with a general election tentatively schedule for March 19.

It's my position the government should stay out of the religion/morality game JT and stop interfering with people's personal choices. Prior to this post I thought you were harmless. Now, given the Nazi reference and other zealot text, I see you are not.

Dinkim or what ever, good for you at least that your mother did not decide to abort, good for you indeed. As for opinions, you know what they say about opinions!

The more important underlying issue is the fruadulant "Trustee" Marc Wiley. Wiley is currently suspended from his Sheriff's Office job without pay for criminal activity and illicit associations with known gang members from the Ford Heights and Chicago Heights area. Wiley is also under an evictions order to vacate a state owned property he has not made one rent payment on. Also, a high end car dealership is currently attempting to recoup funds from a fraudulent deposit Wiley made in an attempt to purchase a vehicle. His vehicle have been repossessed, he is being sued for back child support, and currently has no job. This "Trustee" has shamelessly fooled the governing body at Prarie State and continues to front himself off. If you care to talk Christopher Paiceley, send me an email; I'd be more than happy to share with you plenty more.

Speechless???? Coming from you, that is deplorable. You are as fraudulant as they come. Show us your "Degree" from Lewis University. Produce a check stub from the Sheriff., heard you got fired.... Inform us on your paternity suit you refuse to pay child support on. Where do you live again? Go away Marc Wiley. Your game is very close to exposure. You are a joke!
