Era Ends At Worth Township

The core of the Worth Township Board’s leadership was ousted after 16 years, with only one of the incumbents retaining his seat.

The Worth Township Community First Party of the township’s $2-million-plus tax surplus.

United Party members accused their opponents of faking endorsements and of ties to the state’s top democrat, Illinois State House Speaker Mike Madigan.

Incumbent Michael Mahoney was the only United Party member to retain his seat as a township trustee. Mahoney was first elected to the township board in 1997.

Town Supervisor John “Jack” Murphy and Town Clerk Roger Benson, who’ve also served since 1997,lost their seats.

who was not only ousted as Worth Township Assessor, but lost the Crestwood mayoral race as well.

Of the 89,509 registered voters in Worth Township’s 102 precincts, 23,726 ballots were cast, with a 26.51 voter turnout.

Kevin Hughes (Worth Township Community First Party) - 52.43% 11,300

Clerk, Worth Township

Roger A. Benson (United Party of Worth Township) – 42,49% 9,042

Katie Elwood (Worth Township Community First Party) - 57.51% 12,237

Assessor, Worth Township

John Z. Toscas (United Party of Worth Township) - 48.62% 10,326

John H. Dietrick (Worth Township Community First Party) - 51.38% 10,913

Highway Commissioner, Worth Township

Steve Loulousis (United Party of Worth Township) - 44.82% 9,531

Edward Michael Moody (Worth Township Community First Party) - 55.18% 11,736

Trustee, Worth Township (vote for 4)

Michael E. Mahoney (United Party of Worth Township) - 13.4% 10,469

John ''Jack'' Lind (United Party of Worth Township) - 10.83% 8,460

David J. Walsh (United Party of Worth Township) - 11.26% 8,796
